Penguins swimming club adopts the Pool Safety Operating Procedures of Harlow LeisureZone and Burnt Mill Academy and its staff make themselves familiar with PSOP at any pool we attend. In addition we have our own:
Parents of Swim School swimmers must remain on the premises in the viewing gallery throughout the 30 minute lesson. Responsibility for the swimmer is handed to the parent as the swimmer leaves poolside. Academy and Squad parents must register an emergency mobile phone number with the club and return immediately to collect the swimmer if requested to do so. Swimmers may not be dropped or collected from the car park and parents are responsible for the swimmer in the changing room area.
No photography is permitted in the pool area, changing rooms or gallery. Mobile devices with a camera must be placed in the lockers. Photographing swimmers without consent is a breech of child protection policy and will be reported to the ASA. This may lead to the police being informed. This includes the photographing of a child by another child.
Procedures for ensuring the health and safety of the swimmer are set out by the ASA in the document “Wavepower.” Harlow Penguins formally adopted the swimming club safeguarding policy as part of our affiliation to the ASA. Our club affiliation code is HALT.
