Development Squad Structure
The Development section of Harlow Penguins caters for swimmers aged 11 & Over and recognises the need to for swimmers to develop with similar aged swimmers at their own pace. In terms of competitive expectations these are in line with all other squads within in Competitive Pathway.
The expectations of this group are that whist being enjoyable and fun, sessions will be challenging and rewarding and prepare young swimmers for their move into the Performance Squad pathway of the club.
Detailed below is the current Development Squad Structure.
As part of the Development Squad competitive pathway, swimmers can transition into the Performance pathway by achieving Qualifying Criteria for the County Squads.

Development Squad Qualifying Criteria
Each of our Development Squads has Qualifying Criteria which takes account of a swimmers;
- Competitive Performance – we hold regular Time Trials to assess.
- Training ability – swimmers listen and consistently achieve what is asked for.
- Commitment to Training – attendance, generally we expect 75% attendance in a 3 month period.
These elements will be taken into account as part of a “Coaching Assessment” which may be discussed and agreed with both swimmers and parents.
